If adult jigsaw puzzles are already a favorite pastime or if it’s something you want to add to your hobbies list, you’ve come to the right place. Research actually shows that jigsaw puzzles may have positive effect on our memory! I definitely should do more of them. What it was, however, was quite a few evenings’ worth of fun in an all-consuming way that also activates your brain. But, hopefully you’re also aware that it can totally be an adult activity to do–and a pretty fun one at that! Completing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle was something that had been on my own bucket list, and I can tell you it was no easy feat. It's huge shame, as I can only imagine the hours and hours of fun I could have spent thinking up near-impossible levels to challenge my friends with. When you think of a jigsaw puzzle, you likely associate it with childhood and children. I also found myself wondering why in the world a level creator wasn't included. Unfortunately, Puzzle Dimension lacks online leaderboards, so there's no way to show the world your achievements, and thusly little incentive to push yourself to get a higher score. It's a fun challenge to put yourself up to, and quite difficult at times. You can always go back and try to beat your original score by completing the level faster and touching every tile on the structure. Once you've finally rolled your way through all the levels, the game isn't necessarily over. It's entertaining, but not too distracting, which is a much-appreciated balance considering how much focus some of these levels require. The soundtrack is quite riveting, channeling a MIDI vibe from the 8-bit days. The game also supports 3D if you happen to have a 3D television. The HD graphics are smooth and creative, with a wide range of cool shapes and interesting uses of color to keep you enthralled. One area Puzzle Dimension really stands out is the visuals. You might become quite frustrated at times, but it's really satisfying when you finally reach the end of a particularly difficult challenge. Only by diving in and figuring it out as you go will you conquer the later levels. In fact, they eventually become so complex it's almost daunting to approach them. Puzzle Dimension baby steps you through the basic concepts and controls, slowly upping the ante until, before you know it, you're knee-deep in a level you never would have dreamed of attempting when you first started. Although the core concept is simple, and the idea of a platforming puzzle game has been done before, I was impressed by how expertly the progression in this game was handled. It may not sound complicated, but the difficulty comes from the layout of the structures themselves. One wrong jump and it's game over, sending you back to the very beginning of the level.ĭon't be fooled, it gets a lot more difficult than that. You move around them by jumping from one tile to the next, making sure to avoid spikes, ice, fire, and other traps along the way. Each level is comprised of a series of square tiles that come together to form all kinds of cool shapes. As you venture to collect them all, you roll your way up, down, and all around a series of maze-like, three-dimensional structures. Why? It doesn't really matter, and it's never made clear, but the game is so fun you'll never really stop to question it. Your goal is to navigate a shiny, golden ball through 100 levels, collecting pixelated sunflowers along the way.
